MIDDLE SCHOOL

About Us

Middle School is marked by dramatic intellectual, physical, and social/emotional growth and extraordinary change.  The Middle School faculty at Brighton understands the complexity of the Middle School years and work together to provide a safe, nurturing and secure environment in which to grow and learn, to navigate friendships and to begin to get involved in the growing number of extra-curricular activities offered at the school.  Brighton endeavors to meet the needs of our young adolescents by recognizing the importance of social interaction – individually and in groups, a predictable and organized structure, opportunities to achieve in and out of the classroom, and ample physical activity.

The Perfect Environment for Students

Armed with the knowledge that the middle school years can be full of ups and downs for young adolescents, we value time invested fostering a sense of positive belonging and significance in each of our students.   With a class size ratio of 1 to 12, we have the privilege of knowing our students, and the knowledge we gain through those relationships help us guide the children through the many changes before them.

Our Students’ Schedule

Middle School students begin their day with Advisory Period, a time to learn about and focus upon skills, attitudes and structures that support the growth and development of their executive functions.  These areas continue into the classroom setting and are reinforced with further teaching during the Lunch Advisory Period.  Students continue their educational journey moving toward more abstract and complex learning and thinking.  Although older, their learning differences remain.  Our students continue to need the benefits of a multisensory approach and interactive learning structures that increase the opportunities for student conversation and interaction around academic content that is designed to prepare them for the challenges of high school.
